(ATKINSON, NH, December 6, 2017) – Atkinson Resort & Country Club became a festive winter carnival on Thursday, November 30th when thousands of area residents gathered to participate in the Resort’s sixteenth annual “Light the Tree” celebration.  Goodwill was the theme of the event with donations of 98 new unwrapped toys, 68 stuffed animals, and a huge box of stocking stuffers for the Toys for Tots program, as well as many pounds of non-perishable food items for local soup kitchens. And, even more gifts and food are expected as the Resort will continue collecting throughout much of December.

The event was open to the public and activities such as music, caroling, arts and crafts, hayrides, face painting, and ice carvings entertained children and adults throughout the evening. Santa made his grand entrance on an Atkinson Fire Department ladder truck to light the Resort’s gigantic evergreen tree. After a fireworks display, Santa posed for photos in the Legacy Ballroom and listened to the childrens’ Christmas wish lists. Guests enjoyed complimentary cookies, water, hot chocolate, coffee, and tea.

Christine Lewis Morse, president of The Atkinson Resort & Country Club, said, “We are extremely happy to be a focal point for our community during the holiday season. Many of our guests have said that it is their favorite holiday event and that it helps to signal the launch of the spirit of the season. It really offers something for everyone from the smallest child to the child inside all of us. It is such a treat for us to repeatedly see the large amount of donations and helpers that come in to help our area in a direct way. This event would not be possible without the collective efforts of the community, as well as the volunteers, contributors, and staff; we are very grateful for their hard work and dedication.”
